THE HIVE

Coming soon to Alloa Town Centre is a brand new community space with a focus on all the community and improving what is on offer to young people in particular.

Over the past 2 months Wasp Community Club have set out to engage with local stakeholders from around Alloa in order to identify what is missing and needed in the area. We have seen some fabulous venues and spaces spring up around the area in recent years but there is a need for more and The Hive will be a vibrant multi-purpose space capable of hosting cooking classes, dance classes, meetings and a youth club.

We have made some really good links with other community organisations and with data from Planet Youth surveys we can see there is a real need for a youth club in the area to help tackle anti-social behaviour and provide young people with a focus.  Our youth club will initially run on a Friday night and target those at secondary school.   Alloa Academy and Wasp Community Club have been collaborating on a project that has seen us provide health and wellbeing talks in the school to all S3 pupils with DJ Scooby Cochrane sharing his experiences and 8 pupils from S4 and S5 have taken a lead role in the development of The Hive.  Twice per week they have come to the venue to get involved in the painting and design of the building and are gaining valuable practical skills that will help them as they transition into work and further education.

We have been successful in gaining funding towards the running of the youth club from The National Lottery Young Start Fund and support from McDonalds and the Communities and Place Capital Fund towards the renovation of the space.

As part of the Youth Club we are still seeking to secure electrical equipment such as TVs, PlayStations/Xboxs, coffee machines, DJ equipment and commercial kitchen equipment and would greatly appreciate any donations of such equipment or sponsorship towards them.

Support in completing the project especially painting would be greatly welcomed and anyone who would wish to get involved and give up some time to help us get the venue open sooner please get in touch with Tony McMinn by emailing tony@waspcommunityclub.com. Also any organsations who would be interested in finding out more about the venue and would like to explore using it more please drop us a message.
